Desert Highways – Davis Canyon, Indian Creek, UT
Bikes greased and a loose agenda to scope out the way to a desert tower, we follow a dirt road out of camp. A direction opposite to the highly sought-after obsession of Indian Creek – the land of inexhaustible crack climbing. The dirt road fades to ruts and potholes, puddles and exposed rock. Dry desert soil and its frugal plant life swallow the road.
A right turn. Biking up a natural desert highway – a broad and shallow thirsty wash. Sand under our tires and hints of vehicle tracks, we follow the wash that recedes into the horizon. The novelty of biking a desert highway without destination, exhilarating.
Now, the tower we were in search for, behind us.
